Since the20th century, through constant collision and fusion of Eastern and Western cultures and with the efforts of several generations of oil painting artists, Chinese oil painting has evolved into the contemporary oil painting. During the development of Chinese oil painting, the work emerged with Chinese characteristics is generating a new pattern of contemporary art, appearing in the international art forums and becoming an integral part of many world exhibitions.In the arts, the value lies in the uniqueness and creativity of the artistic language. Without them, the works of art will soon be forgotten in history. During the development of Chinese oil painting, it was after a period of copying and imitating of Western art that artists began to recognize the profound connotation and unique charm of Chinese traditional culture, and embarked on the innovation and exploration of painting language. For a nation's artistic innovation, its traditional culture is the source and foundation of artistic development. In different historical periods of development, there had been different language forms of Chinese oil painting. However, through the tireless efforts of several generations of artists, it gradually formed the unique language of contemporary Chinese oil painting, the Chinese Style, which established the cultural identity of Chinese contemporary art in the context of globalization. This paper attempts to analyze the formation and characteristics of the Chinese Style and explore the development of the language of contemporary Chinese oil painting.This article is consisted of three parts. In the first section, with the diachronic clues, the development process and the evolvement of different language forms during different periods of the20th century, as well as the present context are analyzed. The second section is for the specific analysis of the emergence and development of the new painting language, i.e. the Chinese Style. Through specific texts of the Chinese Style and from the general to the individual cases, it attempts to elaborate, as vividly as possible, the characteristics of this language form. The third section is devoted to the reflection on the development of the Chinese Style in the contemporary context. Through these three sections, we hope it could provide some new perspectives and understanding in the study of the development of Chinese painting language and attract greater attention on the rich cultural value behind them.
