A Preliminary Study On The Teaching Thoughts Of Shen Xiang's Vocal Music

Professor Shen, Xiang is the excellent tenor and the most successful vocal educator of Contemporary China. He is the first person who introduces the "bel canto" style into China and was called the first person of Chinese vocal education. His teaching methods and thoughts are admired not only by the countrymen but also by the westerners. He was praised as “the great man” by Luciano Pavarotti——the distinguished Italian tenor, and he also praised as the China's Caruso.The author has read Pro.Shen's book Shen Xiang's Art of Vocal Music Education and learned his teaching method, benefiting a lot in practice. This book focuses on the understandings of the book and the feelings and experiences in practice. It includes 4parts. The first part is the introduction of Pro. Shen's lifetime, the second part introduces the required quality of a good educator; the third part is the teaching view of teaching the students in accordance of the aptitude and the last part is about the dialectics in vocal education. Based on above parts, the author carries through the theoretical interpretation and gains the practical experience from the perspective of the student learners. First of all, many excellent qualities in Pro.Shen are worth studying by all learners. Secondly, the vocal education needs to be centered on the students and the vocals, and in a similar way, for vocal learners, personal characteristics and work features, both of which are of the same importance, have to be combined together to complete the performance, which is the basis of lifting the personal skills and better performing the vocals. Last but not the least, the learners needs to dialectically look on the problems in the process of learning and integrates the dialectical point of view into the vocal practice and study.
