Arthur Honegger(1892-1955) is the a great composer among‘Les Six'in French,the famous group of 1920 s.He would never follow any creeds of aesthetics or seed the purity of style.In the world of western modern music,it's hard to tell which school Honegger belonged to.Arthur finished five symphonies during his lifetime and is one of the most important symphony composers of the first half of 20 thcentury.Symphonie No.3‘Liturgique'was created at the end of the WW? and it is a masterpiece combined with tradition and modern music techniques.Honegger narrated and appealed to God through this very symphony,expressing his caring to the fate of people.This thesis is divided into three chapters.The first chapter is background information.The whole chapter is about the relation between Honegger and Les Six in French,the views towards the tradition and the composers of the same era and the background of Symphonie No.3.The second chapter is the analysis of the very music text in detail.The elaboration is from four aspects:the construction of the work,theme,pianowork and the tone.The last chapter is a statement in depth of the religious implication of the symphony from the religious perspective.
