The creation of an oil painting is the result of the interaction of different painting languages,of which the objective color and the subjective color are two indispensable color languages in oil painting. The two forms of color would influence and fuse with each other and the objective color would transform itself into the subjective color in various expressive forms. This article mainly discusses two forms of expression. One is the transformation of artists' visual perceptions of observed objects into pictorial colors, which is done mainly by combining light and color to express the color effects in a specific light source. In this expressive form, hue components occupy a relatively large share and the artists self-create by observing the hue of objects in specific time and environment. The other expressive form is the indirect transformation of personal sentiments and thoughts into pictorial colors without the limitation of objects from outside. In this expressive form, there are subjectivities of various degrees in the colors. The second form of expression, based on different driving forces of painting, can be divided into the color for expressing personal feelings and the color for conveying principles and intentions. The former leans to the the blending of sentiments and sceneries and focuses on the expression of personal emotions and feelings. While the latter puts an emphasis on the expression of personal ideals and convictions through sceneries. The third chapter of this article is a brief summary of my understanding and interpretation of the objective color and the subjective color in painting by introducing several of my works during my postgraduate study.
