Oil painting is a kind of painting coming from western paintings. It is at the beginning of the twentieth century that western oil paintings with humanistic spirit and cultural connotation was introduced into China. The spread and development of oil paintings in China are affected by both western culture upon its starting in China and traditional Chinese culture. With the joint efforts of generations of Chinese artists, the mainstream of realistic oil painting comes into being. Realism is neither a school nor a style. It is not a purpose as well. It is an irreplaceable expressive force.Artists express their advanced ideals, capture the features of the era with their keen artistic intuition, use realistic painting presentation to demonstrate real life directly and describe contemporary people’s living state and living conditions and guide and satisfy people’s spiritual needs. Their works can reflect artists’ concern and reflection on people’s living state in the society deeply and interpret the deep meaning hidden behind the artistic works, state a kind of reality, a kind of emotion and thinking and can profoundly reflect a sublime humanistic care.The thesis uses the humanistic care in realistic figure paintings in contemporary China as the foothold. The humanistic care involved in the thesis has two kinds of meaning: first, it is used as a noun to represent humanistic spirit; second, it is used as a verb to represent humanistic care. “Humanistic spirit” can reflect people’s spiritual outlook, value pursuit and existing way under specific periods and embodies the care about people’s spiritual level, including people’s existence significance and ideals and values etc. “Humanistic care” embodies the care about people’s material level,including their living environment, realistic situation and living ways etc.The thesis has four sections:The first section analyzes the basic situation of realistic oil paintings in contemporary China. At first the author states his/her understanding of realist paintings and then combs the development of Chinese realistic oil paintings systematically.The second section analyzes the connection between humanistic care and the realistic figure painting in contemporary China. It defines the connotation of humanistic care under the cultural context of contemporary China, generalizes the importance of humanistic care in the creation of oil paintings and expresses that oil painting creation can be an important carrier for conveying the concept of humanistic care. The quintessence of Chinese realistic figure paintings is reflected through the expression of humanistic spirit in realistic situations and humanistic care.The third section is the key section of this thesis and it analyzes the important demonstration of humanistic care in realistic figure paintings in contemporary China systematically. Humanistic care is elaborated from the expression of national feelings,homeland feelings and the feelings of underclass. It chooses the most representative painters in the realistic style and analyzes their living experience, art concepts and paintings; in combination of the new context in contemporary society, it analyzes how to connect oil painting creation with humanistic care closely, how to follow the correct direction of literary and artistic creation, how to pay attention to and understand the expression of national feelings, homeland feelings and the feelings of underclass and how to show humanistic care, allowing readers to experience and feel the inherent spirit in works.The fourth section analyzes the practical significance of humanistic care under the context of contemporary China and underlines humanistic care is the reflection on the spirit level of contemporary society and the expression of humanistic care is the reflection of humanistic value appeal. It discusses the enlightenment of humanistic care to the author’s artistic language and artistic creation through the analysis of the inherent spirit in artistic works.If painting creation cannot bear social conscientiousness, social obligations and historical missions and embody humanistic care, then only painting and entertainment are left and the painting art will not continue any longer; it even will sink.
