Chinese opera is an important part of Chinese traditional culture. It has a unique position in the world, which is called the world's three ancient opera with Indian Sanskrit and the ancient Greek comedy. With the convening of the Third Plenary Session, the policy, economy and culture of China has entered into a new period of transition and development. In the new period, there are both opportunities and challenge in the process of development for Chinese opera. In order to face the challenge of Chinese opera development in the new period, the academic aspects have made a roll study from the aesthetic level of Chinese opera, with the expect to better guide the future development of Chinese opera.This paper mainly made a comprehensive review and reflection of Chinese opera academic research results in the new period, from an aesthetic point of view. In macro aspect, the paper pays attention to grasp the overall direction of opera aesthetics, and looks for the relationship between opera aesthetics and the social development. At the micro aspect, this paper pays attention to explore the difference of aesthetic judgment, aesthetic thinking for the researchers in different development periods, which has important academic value and practical significance.The paper is divided into three parts with five chapters, which respectively discuss the development of Chinese opera aesthetics and hot issues of the Times since the eighties and nineties, as well as the new century.The first chapter is the first part, which describes the overall development process of Chinese opera aesthetics. It Mainly introduces the budding, formation, development and prosperity of opera aesthetics until the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and makes a summary on the overall trend of Chinese opera since the new period.The second, third, fourth chapter of the paper is the second part, which is the main body of the paper, respectively discusses the development of Chinese opera aesthetics and the hot issues of each era since the eighties, nineties and the new century. Academics in the eighties focused on the study of the performance system, involving the big three theater, the three performance systems, Mei Lanfang performing system and Chinese opera performance system. In the nineties, Influenced by the progress of science and technology, there was a great development for movie and television arts, which caused a huge impact to the art of opera. It promoted fundamentally the combination of the opera art and film and television art. In the progress of the combination of Opera art and movie and television art, the fierce debate "ontology" was produced, causing an important influence on the development of Chinese opera. In the new century, Chinese opera presented a trend of youth, so scholars began the aesthetic study of such series of youth opera. Taking youth version of "Peony Pavilion" which is the most successful case of the youth edition as a case, this chapter explores the aesthetic research of scholars on the practice and theory of the youth series opera.The fifth chapter is the third part, which mainly talks about the methods of Chinese opera aesthetics research since the new era and analyzes the reasons of prosperity in the study of Chinese opera aesthetics, as well as the disadvantages. Finally, in the author's opinion, it is necessary to stand on opera itself and also take the external factors into consideration, and establish and improve the Chinese opera performance system to alleviate the crisis of survival situation, for the revitalization of Chinese opera...
