The development of lines in Chinese painting has gone through a long history, with its form of expression innovated with the change of dynasties.Coming along to these days with Chinese painting, the lines in Chinese painting have become part of Chinese culture and a treasure that modern people should take the responsibility to heritage and utilize. This paper elaborated the writer's understanding on the lines in modern ink-wash figure paintings.In chapter one, the development of lines in ink-wash figure painting was introduced, whose content can be generalized as the formation and development background of lines in modern ink-wash painting. Chapter two analyzed the factors affecting the development of lines in modern ink-wash painting from two perspectives: on the one hand, this issue was discussed by the influence of western art. And on the other, it was discussed from the perspective of time constraints on its development. Ink-wash painting has found expression in many newly-emerged objects in modern time, which is counteracting the development of line forms. Chapter three made an analysis on how modern ink-wash painters utilize lines. Four artists represented by Mr.Song Fengguang were divided into two groups to respectively illustrate the changes in line organization and line form in modern times. Therefore, thefeatures and advantages of time-featured line form were summarized, so as to elaborate what the writer has learned from these analysis and how the writer has explored into this problem. As the most important part of this paper,Chapter for has introduced my ideas about lines, way of expression and morphological characteristics in my works, discussing the way I utilize various forms of lines to characterization and finding the interest and meaning lying under various forms of lines.
