Mural Paintings in Yongle Palace of Ruichen are now the only remaining large-scale,well-preserved frescoes of Quanzhen Taoism.The frescoes in Sanqing Hall is recognized of its high art value,however the Chunyang palace murals attracts less academic attention which leads to a lack of academic research.Therefore,the essay investigated the murals in the Chunyang Hall in order to explore various aspects of biographical paintings of LvDongbin and compensate the lack of academic research.There are four main parts in the essay.The first part is a brief overview of the history of Yongle Palace and the situation of the murals Chunyang palace.The second part focus on the image of Lvdongbin in the chunyang palace to explore the multiple identities of Lvdongbin,as founder of Quanzhen Taoism and Immortal in history.By the analysis of documents and images,I discussed the situation and the value of the paintings of Lv Dongbin in Chunyang Hall in the historical evolution of his image.The third part to traced art forms of biographical paintings of Lv Dongbin,mainly discuss from paintings of the Buddha's biography paintings and traditional Chinese art forms.The fourth part traced a long-term tradition of the belief of Taoism in the south of Shanxi province,analyze the impact of Quanzhen Daoism on the construction of Chunyang Hall and on the drawing of murals,in order to explain the reason of a large-scale appearance of biographical paintings,and then the historical value of biographical paintings of LvDongbin.
