The Influence Of Display Methods On Calligraphy Creation And Reflection

The change in displaying works of calligraphy has gradually become essential element in the development of Chinese calligraphy art. From elegant objects for admiration, to monument carving and inscription cutting; from huge characters on walls, to large scrolls hanging in halls; Chinese calligraphy has achieved great transcendence from its original presenting as short letters and hand scrolls. Since modern times, lifestyle and the social environment transferred, bringing Chinese calligraphy into modern exhibition halls with new context. Calligraphy as fine art has thus experienced a phase of self-discipline. During the last thirty years, the development of exhibitions raises new questions for the creating of calligraphy works.The ways of displaying calligraphy changed, so are appreciating works of art, mental activity during creating and the concept of art creation.My research topic is the influence of displaying on the creating Chinese calligraphy.Firstly, I studied the history of displaying Chinese calligraphy works. Secondly, I discussed the popular displaying concept in contemporary and its influence on the creating process. Thirdly, I reviewed the most important past exhibitions, summarized their characteristic and put forward new problems. Lastly, I made judgments and reflection on the creating of calligraphy works under the ‘exhibition' era. I hope my research will refer to future art creation.
