Jules Verne (1828-1905) was a famous French writer in the 19th century, who created a great number of outstanding literary works all his life, most of which are science fiction or adventure novels. As a western writer, he never came to China, but knew a lot about this ancient and distant eastern civilization. He has repeatedly referred to China in his works, and depicts a group of Chinese people. In the two novels:The Tribulations of a Chinaman in China and The Adventure of Claudius Bombarnac, a Special Correspondent, the author especially describes in detail the scene of Chinese society in the 19th century and shapes a few unique Chinese.In the light of rare researches on China image in the works of Jules Verne at home and abroad currently, this thesis selects the above two works as the main research objects, and refers to the Jules Verne's other related works about China to sort out, conclude and analyze China image in his works by using the theory of imagology and compare with the contemporary French social collective imagination. In addition, the thesis sheds light on Jules Verne's cognition and attitude towards China and explains his unique view on China from the perspective of these Chinese images. The analysis of Verne's image of China and his view of China enables us to have a deeper understanding and grasp of exotic image of China in the 19th century, and better understand the position and role of China's culture in the international cultural exchange from another angle.The body part of the thesis is divided into three chapters. The first chapter mainly introduces Verne's interests on China and his related works on China. The second chapter summarizes the image of Chinese people and China's society in Verne's works. And the third chapter mainly inspects how Verne built China image, analyzes the source of its data and Verne's statement of China image, and sheds light on Verne's view on China through these concrete analyses. The conclusion part summarizes the full text and explains that Verne's China image is a combination of ancient China and modern China, and the research on Verne's China image is another new way to interpret the works of Jules Verne.
