Research On China's National Image From The Perspective Of Foreign Youth

Since the 21 st century,with the continuous improvement of China's overall national strength,,China's image has been concerned both at home and abroad.In such context,telling a good Chinese story has become more and more urgent and necessary.The emergence of a project named “Watch China · Foreign Youth Video”broke the initial barrier and opened a new page to spread China's image.Foreign youths use images to write Chinese stories and shaped China's national image from different sides.However,the construction and effective dissemination of a good national image is not accomplished overnight.It shall be based on the self-image of the country,the development of its own culture,and external views and attitudes on its national image.On this basis,this article explores the presentation of China's national image from the perspective of foreign youths through the short documentary of the “Watch China · Foreign Youth Video Project(Gansu)”,discusses the self-understanding of China's national image through this reverse approach from the outside to the inside,and finds new ideas for building and dissemination of China's national image.This article is divided into the following four parts.The first part starts explained the definition and construction of the national image.Then it introduces art works to expound the relationship between these works and the construction of national image.Due to the subordinate relationship between documentaries and art works,the “Watch China ”project is presented in the form of short documentaries.In this way,we can analyze the relationship between documentaries and national image by analyzing China image in foreign documentaries in different periods,and discover the important role and reasons of documentaries in the construction of national image.The second part introduces the general situation of the “Watch China” project,and analyzes the national image created by the project from its practice and communication process.The third part mainly analyzes the construction way of the image of China in the“Watch China · Gansu Travel”documentary film from narrative content to narrative form using the theory of narratology.It mainly takes the analysis of the narrative theme as the narrative content and the audiovisual language of the “WatchChina · Gansu Travel” documentary as the narrative form.The fourth part explores how to build a good national image of China through the works of “Watch China · Gansu”.The analysis of the documentary“Watch China · Gansu”,combined with other countries' documentaries on China's national image construction,provides reference for the later dissemination and construction of China's national image documentaries.
