The Study Of Xu Hongjun, A Dramatist In The Qing Dynasty

Xu Hongpan, who styled himself as "Jiankui", his literary name is Yunqiao. He was born in Jining, Shandong. He created a large number of works, such as Fang Yu Kao Zheng, the Poetic Prose of Liu Guanlou, the Six Dramas of Liu Guanlou and so on. This paper is divided into three chapters.The first chapter mainly explores the family background, lifetime, and social relationship of Xu Hongpan. According to his poems, proses and the local chronicles of Jining, the information of his parents, wife and brothers is found. On the basis of previous research, a complete analysis of his life experience is done.It should be noted that his experience of taking charge of the magistrate of Shouzhou is found. Xu Hongpan made friends with his fellow and some people who are accomplished in literature and drama, such as Zhu Fengsen, Ling Tingkan, Li Zhaoyuan. They gave hands to him on his creation of literature and drama.The second chapter aims to do research on the original stories and the themes of the Six Dramas of Liu Guanlou. The dramas of Xu Hongpan are most based on history, reflecting the thought of loyalty, filial piety, righteousness, etc. San Chaimeng is taken from the Dream of Red Mansions, reflecting the awareness of "life is a dream"The third chapter researches artistic traits of Xu Hongpan's the Six Dramas of Liu Guanlou. As a scholar, Xu Hongpan used to make a textual research on the creation of traditional dramas, for instance, his dramas is using the language of small ethnic minorities. With regard to the creative methods, Xu Hongpan advocated the perspective of drama being history. There are the factors of immortals, ghosts and trange phenomena in his dramas. The male images in his dramas usually are officials or kings. The literary quality and political quality of the female images in his dramas is extraordinary. In his dramas, the female images are loyal while the male images are faithful. According to the statement of Xu Hongpan, he created his dramas after Yuan-zaju. However, he didn't follow the system of Yuan-zaju.
