The Study Of The Epitaph Of The Beijing Area In The Tang Dynasty

Beijing district in Tang dynasty was the core area of Youzhou,the most important military town in northern China.Before the An-Shi rebellion,this district was the rear base in Tang dynasty's control of the northeast area.After the rebellion,it became the separatist region of Youzhou Jie du shi(???).This paper mainly concentrates on the officials,civilians and women groups who live or hold a post in Beijing district and tomb here after their death.Much of the materials used in this paper were Tang epitaphs.They were recorded in these bcxiks ··Tang dai mu zhi hui bian(??????),Tang dai mu zhi hui bian xu ji(????????,Xin zhong guo chu tu mu zhi Beijing volume(???????·???),Quan tang wen bu yi(?????).The 95 epitaphs in Beijing district of Tang dyrnasty were mainly engraved after An-Shi rebellion.Most of the epitaph owners were Han people and others were non-Han people,included Tibetans,Xianbei(??),Sogdians,Xi(?)and Khitans.Part One introduces the history of Tang dynasty,included its historical position,system evolution and the situation of Youzhou city.Part Two analysis the meanings of epitaph in Beijing district from different sorts.Also,it analysis the cause of the phenomenon of Qianzang(??)and Gaizang(??)in Youzhou of these epitaph owners.Part Three introduces the three methods of how the officials get into the officialdom,which involve imperial examination system,Men yin(??)and Pi shu(??).This paper shows that the middle and lower military officials occupy the majority of the epitaph owners in Beijing district of Tang dynasty and most of them get iinto the officialdom with the method of Pi shu(??).It reveals the fact of separatism of Beijing district in late Tang.This district also became an important military town,where the various ethnics in northern China assimilate and live together here.With the growth in numbers of the"go north on Hesuo" residents and the barbarians from the northern areas,Beijing had a rapid economic and social development.Objectively,it established the foundation of Beijing's political center position after Liao dynasty.
