Hong Shen is one of the founders of Chinese modern drama and movie. Throughout his life, he made 39 movies. He also experienced and worked as the screenwriter, director, actors and made some theoretical discoveries. Under the influence of the modern new ideas and new culture, Hong wrote 14 film scripts from the perspective of women, and shaped four types of female characters. Furthermore, he focused on women from different perspectives. The first type is the traditional women who could not extricate themselves from a plight, which he paid attention to their real life; The second type is the women who was lost. He followed this by entering into their inner spirit; The third type is the traditional female who was still in the growth process. He concentrated on their future; The fourth type is the women who was struggling to fight. He focused on their spirit of independence. By particularly analyzing the living conditions and inner spirit of the female characters in Hongshen's movie scripts, we further explore the artistic features of the female movies. The format of the scripts, the setting of the characters, the narrative perspective, all reflects his creation attitude of "for the creation of the life" and his goal of reforming the society. Hong Shen fully expressed women's major consciousness and his concern for the female group in his scripts by giving them the right of voicing their opinions and shaping their characters. Through a concrete analysis of Hong Shen's female movie themes and artistic characteristics, we summarize the value of his female movie scripts, its contribution to the art of modern film, as well as the enlightenment for the contemporary film.
