The Study Of Meng Xue In The Yuan Dynasty

Mengzi, who is a philosopher and educator of China, is the representative of Confucian branch and known as " Yasheng". His importance in Confucian tradition is second only to that of Confucius himself and they are known as "Kong Meng". His book the Mencius was regarded as an important classic by ancient scholars and kings and has great influence on Chinese people. Mencius is a study which consist of two parts. First part is the study of Mengzi himself including his life and some stories about him. Second part is the study of the Mencius including the articles, naming and systems, argumentation and interpretation, edition and collation as well as organization of articles etc.Sorting out the materials of the development situation of Yuan's Mencius, representing the research achievements genuinely and judging the academic outcomes of this period rationally will have a great academic meaning.The thesis was composed in five parts.The first part is introduction. First, I will state the research meaning of the issue-The Brief Textual Research on Mencius Works of Yuan Dynasty; Second, I will state the research situation of the academia including the research on Mengzi and The Four Books; Third, I will state my research methods and strategies; Fourth, explanatory notes.The second part is the overview of Yuan Mencius. First, I will analyze the reason of enhancing the status of Mencius himself and his book. And I will introduce the development of Yuan Mencius and its background. Second I will introduce Yuan Mencius writings, and thus the overall development of the Yuan Mencius overview. Third, I will analyze the regional characteristics of the Yuan Mencius,which including North School of Science and South School of Science. And the metropolitan Zhu Xi of Yuan scholars, Academically.The third part is about the remained Mencius works. It contains 9 writings. And i will talk about the writer, the purpose, the content, the value and the edition of each work.The fourth part is about the lost Mencius works. It contains 18 writings.And I will talk about the writer, the purpose and the judgment of each work.The fifth part is the epilogue. In this part, I will make a conclusion of all the writers, works and their development situation.In general, Mencius occupies a high status in Yuan Dynasty, but comparing with Song' Mencius, it doesn't make any remarkable progress and breakthrough comparing with Song's Mencius. But there is no denying that the transformation of the writing method and textual researches in Yuan Dynasty promoted the growth of Mencius in Qing Dynasty and make it reach its peak...
