Chen Benli's Research On Qu Yuan Jing Yi

Qu Quan was the first great poet in the history of Chinese literature. Combining the Chu culture with his own political experience and personal character, he pioneered the Songs of Chu literary genre. Boring in Qianjia period, Chen Benli admired Qu Yuan's brilliant, so on the basis of inheriting predecessors' research results and referencing dozens of books since Han dynasty to Qing dynasty, he wrote the book The precise Meaning of Qu Yuan's Poems. It is the representative book of the chapter genre's the Songs of Chu in Qing dynasty, which including Qu Yuan's twenty-seventh poems. This book is priority to elaborating on the meaning of Qu Yuan's poems. Chen Benli gave a detail interpretation of Qu Yuan's poems from context, composition and meaning. Baesd on the current research status, eapacially the research result of Ke Hunhan, this paper is aimed to have a comprehensive study on The Precise Meaning of Qu Yuan's Poems. In order to reflect the elaborating meaning characteristic, this paper will analyze Chen's interpretation to the ideological content of Qu Yuan's poem from the three aspects of reality, history and myth on the basis of combing Chen's lifetime, books and note characteristic.Besides introduction and conclusion, this paper is divided into four chapters.In the first chapter, this paper discusses Chen Benli's lifetime and his books. Though Ke Hunhan has give some discussions on this question, it is uncomprehensive. In the first place, we have a overview of Chen's lifetime and his work. He was a commoner in all his life and built "The Bottle Gourd Chamber" library. Besides The precise Meaning of Qu Yuan's Poems, he had written six books. On the basis of Ke Hunhan's research, we will give a detailed interpretation on Chen Benli's works. And then briefly introduces the writing reason, the version and layout style of The Precise Meaning of Qu Yuan's Poems. we will replenish two writing reasons of predecessor's deficiency and Qu Yuan's poem's composition.In the second chapter, this paper discusses Chen Benli's interpretation to the ideological content of Qu Yuan's poems, namely viewpoint of reality, history and myth. Firstly, combined with the reality of the King Chuhuai's enlightenment, partisan's flattery, talent's defection and friends and relatives'misunderstanding, Chen Benli discusses Qu Yuan's real situation in Chu Kingdom. Secondly, combined with the historical figures and historical events in Qu Yuan's poems, Chen Benli discusses that Qu Yuan hopes the King of Chuhuai take history as mirror and achieve the political aspiration. Lastly, combined with myth stories of formation of the universe, travelling around for women and witch culture in Li Sao, Tian Wen, and Travel Faraway, Chen Benli discusses Qu Yuan's myth thought.In the third chapter, this paper discusses the overall evaluation of The Precise Meaning of Qu Yuan's Poems. On Ke Hunhan's results, we point out this book's values in structure, female's result, fully quote and prove and so on. On the other hand, we point out its deficiency in dividing the scriptures and the preamble, judging the poetic and using The Book of Songs to interpret The Songs of Chu.
