On The Creation Process Of Yang Yu's Novels By "prose Writers"

The writer Yang Shuo had always been identified as "seventeen years of prose" professional in the history of literature. But the time in the creation of prose during his literary career was only less than 1/3. He started the creation of novel since Anti-Japanese war, and at the time of Korean War, he had already created 6 novellas and over 20 short novels. His novel creation had experienced nearly twenty years of history and presented the obvious transformation tendency, which was the result of his life experience, literary theory background, and personal spiritual resources interacted with great events of the times. From May Fourth Movement to YanAn, and then the blending internalization of these two spirits, the Samchully Jiangshan became the sign of of the maturity of his novels. This paper take time sequence to assort Yang Shuo's novel creation road by dividing it into three periods and four chapters to respectively discuss:Chapter one analyzes YangShuo's creation road by collecting and arranging his life experiences from childhood to youth, family environment, school experience and great events of the times. Literary knowledge reserve, Growth journey, Chinese traditional education, Western modern education, May Fourth liberation of humanity, and Enlightenment spirit constituted the most primitive resources of YangShuo's literature creation. However, July 7th Incident and Mukden Incident pused liberal Yang Shuo to Proletarian Revolution. The pain, struggle and confusion resulted from these events became emotional normality of adolescent YangShuo.Chapter two diccusses the first stage of Yang Shuo's novels creation,that was before 1938. This period was the initial stage of his novel creation, and the works of this period were not many, mainly some novel correspondences. He created his first novellar Stream of the Pamirs, which was the most representative and influential work among writers of this period. So this work was regarded as discussion center of this period. The novel took the May Fourth enlightenment spirit as the creative resources and had the clear characteristics of the times. Therefore, the work presented the characteristics of the rural scene of revolutionary base in the Anti-Japanese war by taking humanism as the breakthrough point. And a call of human nature was implied in the novel under the theme of nationality and class character. Because of these, it can be said that this was an enlightenment novel more than salvation.Chapter three discusses the second stage of his novel creation, that was from 1939 to 1949. In this stage Yang Shuo firstly experienced a long period of war correspondent life. After three years of experience in Yanan rectification learning, he returned to the battlefield. The real battlefield experience and the political constraints of Yanan "Speech" made the writing style changed with nearly 20 short stories and 4 novellas created. However, due to the the running period of transformation and the wartime condition, the level of novel writing appeared to flow backwards in this period. His novel in this period focused on the stoyry of Revolution of Workers and Peasants but ingnored characterization, the expression was straightforward plain,and self alienation characteristics was presented. But these changes have made the theoretical preparation for his novels after the founding of the PRC.Chapter four discusses the third stage of his novel creation, that was atfer 1950. It was the mature period of the author's novels. He created two full-length novels Samchully Jiangshan and wash horses. But wash horses was incomplete with only first volume finished among all the three volumes of the book. So this part mainly focuses on Samchully Jiangshan. It was the first novel in the background of the Korean War, which reflected the battle and life of railway workers on the battlefield of the Korean War. The novel took the internationalism and patriotism as theme, but broke through the narrative shortcomings in paying more attention to story than personnal, and created a group of ordinary hero images. Meanwhile, he paid more attention to character emotion in ordinary life. Strong personal narrative was the result of his internalization of the norms of political literature in Yanan and the return in concerning human nature. But the personal narrative was originate from collective, and the narrative logic of the Republic was formed from the hesitation and choice among personal affection, love and patriotism.
