Shuo Wen Jie Zi is a dictionary compiled by Xu Shen in Eastern Han Dynasty,which is an important writing of philology.In order to excavate the text value of Shuo Wen Jie Zi further,this paper intends to study two kinds of literature about Shuo Wen Jie Zi.One is Xin Diao Ru Zhuan Shuo Wen Zheng Zi,the other is Pingjinguan Version of Shuo Wen Jie Zi.As for Xin Diao Ru Zhuan Shuo Wen Zheng Zi,the main study is its differences from Song Dynasty Version in text,and analysis of the types of differences,and the causes of differences.Overall,Zheng Zi only recorded the radicals' Xiaozhuan and explanation,some radicals were missing,a large number of characters were omitted.The phenomena were common in explanation such as omission of the characters,wrong characters and sequence error.And there are many cases of active modification,which were embodied in four aspects.In compilation style,Zheng Zi deleted the sentence that "Every Chinese character controlled by this radical must contain the shape of this radical as a component",except for the character "yi".In explanation,some added or deleted characters,and some used variant forms.In classification of Liu Shu,some were missing,and some were inconsistent with the original version.In annotation,Zheng Zi replaced the annotation "Chen Xuan said" with "Xu Xuan said" that Xu Xuan noted when he revised Shuo Wen Jie Zi.As for Pingjinguan Version,the main study is its engraving procedure and its modification of master copy.And the focus will be on the modification,that is,to examine what modification were made,which were right,which were wrong,the basis for modification and so on.Pingjinguan Version was based on the version carved in Song Dynasty and repaired in Yuan Dynasty,which was collected by Ele Bu and now collected in National Library of China.It is the book "The Song Dynasty Version of Shuo Wen Jie Zi" published by National Library Press.Comprehensive review of the text will be made between Pingjinguan Version and Song Dynasty Version.Besides,Song Version collected in Seikado Bunko in Japan and and Jiguge Version will be used as references.By comparison,we found that Pingjinguan Version was basically in accordance with the original layout of the engraving.In the process of engraving,Pingjinguan Version has corrected some of the errors in the master copy,and also dealt with the ink block,the direct modification on characters,and vacancies of the words.In addition,it also increased the taboo words.Of course,in the process of engraving,there were inevitably some new mistakes,some of which were unique to Pingjinguan Version.The paper is divided into four parts.The first chapter is an introduction,including three sub-sections:the existing version of Shuo Wen Jie Zi and related comparative research,the current situation of the study of the two literature,the purpose and the method of this study.The second chapter is the study of text of Xin Diao Ru Zhuan Shuo Wen Zheng Zi.In the first section,we will compare the text between Xin Diao Ru Zhuan Shuo Wen Zheng Zi and Song Dynasty Version.In the second section,we will summary and analyze the types of differences between the two versions.The third chapter is investigation of the engraving and modification of Pingjinguan Version.In the first section,we will study the engraving process of Pingjinguan Version,and put emphasis on the selection of the master copy of the version.On this basis,we will study the modification of Pingjinguan Version in second section.We will analyze whether the version is corrected and the basis for modification.And then the third section will focus on four phenomena including the ink block,the direct modification on characters,vacancies of the words and the taboo words.The final part is the conclusion,and we will summarize the study of text.
