A Study Of The Aggressive Behavior Of Narcissists In A Self-threatening Situation

As one of the basement behavior of human, the aggressive behavior plays very important role in our society. Since the birth of human, the war and conflict within person?group? region nation and country never show rests, we can also find this kind of behavior in our daily life. Furthermore, it's so complex and variety when people behave violence, except the body and language attack, there are some other kinds of aggressive behavior, which may be indirect and invisible, some phenomenon like cyber-bullying even becoming burning issues with the progress of internet technology. Given the serious situation, it's very necessary to show the light for the aggressive behavior through psychology vision.The previous research has proved that the personal decision making can be influenced by the social pressure, which has evolutional reason for human beings, by being sensitive for the pressure around, every single living things can have more chance to survive and exist, the pressure can push you out to make change or slows you down to give up. The effect of social pressure becoming more and more important along with the birth of human society, however, this kind of effect can be regulated by the personality. The association between personal trait and the effect of social pressure is so closing, even from the basic feeling to the later cognitive processing. In this paper, one of the "dark traits"-narcissism, is considered in the process of behavior making. Known as the exaggerated self image, the narcissism also is one of the hot issues in aggressive research. Will the social pressure influenced the narcissism's aggressive behavior making? What is the difference and how to explain it?In order to find the answer, we did two studies. The first study have two experiments, while the second study designed another experiment which is based on the conclusion of the first study.189 university students joined the first study and another 184 university students joined the second one. The main purpose of the experiment 1 in the first study, is to see whether their aggressive behavior can have difference between the covert or overt narcissism, especially in the ego threaten cases. We also changed the victim's social status to caused different social pressure. The experiment 2 is focused on the potential aggressive attitude, so we used the IAT test as a tool for research. In the second study, the cognitive load technique was introduced to show the light of the key position of cognitive processing in aggressive behavior making.The results of the experiments showed that after ego threaten motivated, the overt narcissism shows more aggressive behavior than the covert ones, especially in the high social pressure enviroment. Except that, the IAT test proved the covert narcissism shows more aggressive attitude than the overt ones, and the final study find the cognitive resource plays an important role in aggressive behavior making, but only for the covert ones. At last, the limitation and future research is discussed.
