The Network Lets Him Express An Attack?

With the in-depth study of narcissism and aggression in recent years,the research on overt/covert narcissism and aggression is the most representative.Previous studies have found that overt and covert narcissists are less likely to exhibit aggressive behavior in the context of peer acceptance.However,under the situation of peer rejection,overt narcissists will exhibit strong aggression in order to maintain their higher levels of self-esteem,and will attack these people include both their companions who rejected them and other innocent(revenge attack and metastatic attack).Covert narcissists who have low self-esteem are less likely to attact others in order to protect themselves.In the past,most scholars were limited to study aggression in real situations,and did not take the online situation factors into account.Therefore,it is the focus of this study to study the differences between different narcissists in real life and on the Internet.Based on the above questions,this study consists of a questionnaire and two empirical studies.A large scale questionnaire survey was conducted for randomly selected five universities in Xi'an.The design of first experiment is based on the previous research.And we will verify its correctness according to adding the non-narcissistic group as neutral control group.Two paradigms will be used to to study the differences in traditional aggression behaviors of different narcissists in different social situations-competitive reaction time task and project research assistant evaluation.Three paradigms will be used to to study the differences between online aggression and traditional aggression of different narcissists under different network situations-cyberball game,project game developer evaluation and competitive reaction time task.The purpose of this study is to investigate whether the covert narcissist in the anonymous situation of the Internet shows the online aggressive behavior,and to confirm whether the different narcissists who are rejected online will show traditional aggression in real situations.The first study shows that:Overt narcissism is positively correlated with self-esteem,and covert narcissism is negatively correlated with self-esteem.Overt narcissistic/covert narcissism is positively correlated with aggression and online aggression,and overt and covert narcissism can positively predict aggression and online aggression.Self-esteem is negatively correlated with aggression and online aggression.And self-esteem can negatively predict aggression and online aggression.Self-esteem is a partial mediator between the relation of overt/covert narcissism and aggression;Self-esteem is a partial mediator between the relation of overt narcissism and online aggression.However,self-esteem doesn't play an intermediary role between covert narcissism and online aggressionThe second study shows that:In the social exclusion situation,overt narcissistic group show significantly higher level of aggressive behavior than covert narcissistic group and neutral control group.There have no significant difference in aggression between overt narcissistic group and neutral control group.There is no significant difference in aggression between different narcissists under the social acceptance situation.There is no significant difference between overt and covert narcissistic group in the context of network rejection.Moreover,the level of online aggressive behavior of overt and covert narcissistic group is significantly higher than that of neutral control group.However,traditional aggressive behavior of overt narcissistic group is significantly higher than that of covert narcissistic group and neutral control group.There was no significant difference in the traditional aggressive behavior between the covert narcissistic group and neutral control group.Under the condition of network acceptance,there is no significant difference between online aggressive behavior and traditional aggressive behavior of different narcissists.To sum up,overt narcissists are easy to attack others both in reality and on the Internet.Covert narcissists are less likely to show aggression in reality,but anonymous online platforms can encourage their attacks.
