This paper analyzed the topic of non-figurative “dreamland symbols” in surrealism.The topic was expounded by means of looking up data and visiting exhibitions as well as citing some picture materials.Meanwhile,the author's own viewpoints as well as experience from studying and observation were added to explain the values and significance of non-figurative “dreamland symbols” in creation of surrealist oil paintings.As a form of artistic expression which is frequently used by surrealist artists in their works,non-figurative “dreamland symbol” is not only able to sincerely convey artists' subconscious world,but also able to make the pictures more eye-catching,so as to enable the works to appeal to both refined and popular tastes.Surrealist oil paintings with non-figurative “dreamland symbols” as the main means of artistic expression can directly convey artists' subconsciousness and creative thought,thus expressing the aesthetic tastes of the paintings in a visual and dreamlike manner.This paper is divided into five chapters based on the attribute of non-figurative “dreamland symbols”.Chapter One analyzed the concepts of “dreamland symbols” and non-figurative paintings to expound the relations between them.Chapter Two expounded the connotation,history and philosophical basis of “surrealist painting”.Chapter Three focused on Chinese artists and western masters who adopted non-figurative “dreamland symbols” in surrealism,so as to discuss their artistic languages and summarize the different features,evolution and inner factors of non-figurative “dreamland symbols” in their paintings,trying to explain the expression features and significance of surrealist non-figurative “dreamland symbols”.The last two chapters mainly expounded the authors' viewpoints and conclusions.The research objectives of this paper include the follows: firstly,to provide a new research direction for Chinese artists and amateurs through expounding non-figurative “dreamland symbols” in surrealism;secondly,currently,both Chinese and foreign researches on surrealist paintings mostly focus on deeming them as dreamlands or figurative “dreamland symbols”,while the author tries to choose single non-figurative “dreamland symbol” and take its expression features,evolution and inner reflection as the entry point,aiming at presenting the different picture effects expressed by non-figurative “dreamland symbols” under different subconscious states.The main viewpoint of the paper is as follows: with concise and unique form,non-figurative “dreamland symbols” visually convey artists' creating emotions and subconsciousness world,which is particularly important in modern times when the society is developing rapidly.People shouldn't ignore their psychological needs;instead,they need to pay attention to inner world while paying attention to science,careers,life,studying,health and environment.
