Chang'an Poetry Study In The Calendar Year

After the shih rebellion, tang dynasty came to the monarchy of daizong emperor.The poetry evolved as the history went forward. The tang poetry came to the period of dali parnassus, of which the representatives are the ten talented poets of dali period is an important part of dali parnassus, so this thesis research the chang'an parnassus of dali period. Except the introduction,the thesis consists of four chapters, conclusion and appendix. The subjects of chapter 1 are the political context and cultural atmosphere in chang'an. The vibrant tang empire are gone. Although tang empire were slowly reviving from the catastrophe, daizong emperor and his chancellor couldn't lead tang empire to the real revival. This was a disappointing era, people waking from a nightmare but falling into the vacuous life. In cultural aspect, the rulers are concerned about culture. The imperial examination system are revived. Yuanzai and wangjin, the new dignitaries, decorated the facade with elegant things, inviting poets to compose poems. The main contents of chapter 2 are the names of the ten talented poets of dali period, the assembling and separation of the ten poets, the reasons of their famous reputation. The ten talented poets, the reasons of their famous reputation. The ten talented poets flattered the dignitaries, appreciated and promoted by their literary talent. In chapter 3, we discourses the literary composing activities and mentalities of the poets who lived in chang'an of dali period. The activities are classified into four important types------farewell, living alone at home, visiting monks in temples, going sightseeing. In the poems of farewell, the poets sometimes treated with courtesy and sometimes lamented their unfortunate fate. In the poems composed when lived alone at home, they often expressed a pessimistic attitude. In the poems composed when they visited monks, they attempted to comprehend the theory of zen. When they went sightseeing, they often desired to retreat to countryside. In chapter 4, we discourse the poetry style of chang'an parnassus. One remarkable shortcoming is the scarcity of genuine feeling in their poems. Furthermore many poems seem to be limp compared with the poems of high tang. However, there are also lots of delicate sentences in their poems. Under the burden of calamitous society and unfortunate life, they also composed some touching poems. The appendix is the brief history of chang'an parnassus of dali period. The literary composing activities of chang'an poets are recorded.All in all, chang'an poets stayed in the heart of empire tang, they directly sensed the pulse of society and recorded somethings of the era they lived in. We read their poems, understand the poets, and feel the atmosphere of the era. The above is the profile of my thesis.
