Yayoi Yayoi Art Research

Yayoi Kusma, is a famous Japanese avant-garde artist. Her works of art, full of all kinds of dots, can create strong visual impact. The artistic form she created had become the classic in the 20th century. The dot, the most basic design unit, means infinite possibility for Yayoi Kusama. Even we can see that her art life accompanied by the dot. By the analysis to her different periods of experience and design works, this paper wants to find out the artistic features of her works and the differences and similarities between her works and Japanese painting style. Meanwhile, we hope to know how to express the dot's unique charm and rich connotation by contrasting with others artists like Yoshitomo Nara and Kenya Hara.In this paper, the first chapter is the introduction part, mainly introduced the significance of the subject, the research status and research methods of this article. The main body part started from the second chapter. In this chapter, which is a preparation for analysis the features of the dots in her works, we first studied several important experience of Yayoi Kusma. Next, the paper summarized the features of the dots in her design works which was divided into the period of America and Japan, and analyzed the causes of her work style combining with the background. Meanwhile, we studied the connection between her works and the traditional painting style of Japan, and explored the Japanese style in her works by comparing with others artists. And then, combining with the analysis before, it's a introduction to my own design works. In the finally, the paper summarized conclusions in this article, and tribute to the great artist once again.In this paper, the third and four part is the emphasis. In my opinion, Yayoi Kusma's life can be divided to three periods, the childhood in Japan, pursuing art in America, returning to Japan after the old. For pursuing art, Yayoi Kusma went to the America alone. It can be said to be the turning point of her art career, in this open country, Yayoi Kusma found the freedom that she dreamed, and licentious expresses the inner demands by her huge works and crazy behavior art. But after returning to Japan, her dots became plump and colorful, which give us the feeling of happiness. Due to a design artist's work is often a embodiment of the emotion of the artist, so in this paper we respectively analyzed between two periods of Yayoi Kusma's creation psychology as well as background in view of the her period of America and Japan, so as to seek work style formation of the factors in the two periods. In addition, the article also compared the style in the two periods, and observed Yayoi Kusma similarities and differences in artistic features in the works of different periods, so as to learn the creation mode and processing method of this artist, and understand the spirit of sacrifice for art by her works.For Yayoi Kusma's works, the analysis in this paper mainly focused on her processing and application of the dots. The composing characteristics which only belongs to Yayoi Kusma, are due to the skillful use of four characteristics of the location, shape, size and number of features of the dots. Especially the pumpkin which is designed by the use of repeating, damaging point size, changing shape, let us deeply realized some unique charm of the dots. And in the application of graphic design, we should learn to use some of these features to express our thoughts.
