Subject And Criticism - Foucault's "Truth Game" Study

"The game of truth"is the fundamental source of Foucault’s philosophical research about existential aesthetics.In his theory,the truth is not those subjective modern knowledge which may restrict people,but the those that would make people happy.Foucault holds a skeptical attitude towards the traditional philosophy of the subject,and argues that Kant’s philosophy focuses on the "internality" of Western culture whereas he himself has made a critical analysis of the subject from the perspective of history to get rid of the shackles of transcendental subjects.But also benefited from Nietzsche’s critical thinking on history,Foucault avoids the traditional historical analysis,trying to employ the genealogical method to explore the power problem of "the game of truth"under the complex historical background.He is concerned with the relationship between the subject itself and the truth,because this relationship would build the subject itself as the knowledge subject;he is also concerned about the relationship between the subject itself and the power,because this relationship would build the subject itself as the subject of influencing others.His study of truth is an exploration different from the traditional conception,which is,from the perspective of the discourse power analysis,to explore the operating rules of "the game of truth" in a particular historical period,in some social specific conditions to ensure who can be the subject of knowledge and what can be the truth.The operation of society is inseparable from the rules of "the game of truth" in some way,so Foucault analyzes the social practice with archaeology and genealogy to reveal the relationship among social operation rules,power,knowledge and subject.This thesis,starting with the understanding of "the game of truth",explores the ways it is constructed and the relationship among the subject,self-technology,power and knowledge;discusses the criteria of subject,as well as the constituents of rules to make such criteria;analyses the process to self-construction in the context of "the game of truth";elucidates the critical mind of "the game of truth" for the practical activities of subject,its social criticism so as to clarify power,care and subjectivity found in subject self-construction and self-discipline from the perspective of "the game of truth"and its construction,for the author believes that a good understanding of "the game of truth" and its critical mind would shed light on subject that would recognize and criticize truth and knowledge;how a subject may change and update itself in self-annihilation and self-destruction;how the subject itself may deal with the existential disciplines on the basis of game rules so as to adapt itself to its ambiance at ease.
