Create Poetry On The Historical Ruins

Theo Angelopoulos,as a top-level director in Greece,was one of the directors who were influenced by the new wave of European Cinema.He inherited the poetic style from Andrei Tarkovsky,and occupied a high and unique position in the world cinema field depending on the tranquil pictures,tough stories,and recondite metaphors.Theo Angelopoulos' s films criticized the Greek politician and history.His films showed a concern on the Greek mental world,whose heavy cultural connotation and humanistic concern made them blossoming in the international cinematic circles.Theo Angelopoulos made a deep excavation on the poetic elements of film language and formed a personal expression breaking the traditional style,which made his productions being respected.He learnt from Greek tragedy and myth,which created a new and special perspective for film creation.Even to this day,Theo Angelopoulos,the star of being respected director,has fallen,but his spirit is still affecting us now.This paper regards Theo Angelopoulos' s thirteen long films as the objectives containing Reconstruction,Thirty-six Years,The Travelling Players,Hunter,Alexander the Great,Landscape in the Mist,Voyage to Cythera,Beekeeper,Ulysses' Gaze and so on.Studying from the angle of aesthetics means that I will use the aesthetics as the academic perspective or methodology to research Theo Angelopoulos' s films.This article researched films' aesthetic principles and characteristics using the method of literature research and case analysis to sum up the narrative strategy,visual modality,and ideological connotation.In chapter one,it mainly discusses the origin of the aesthetic style of Theo Angelopoulos' s films expounding from four aspects,Greek culture,turbulent times of war,tortuous life experience,and innovation practice of bold adventure,and reveals his life experience in true world and ideological evolution in films.In chapter two,I will study his films poetic theme.Theo Angelopoulos continued to explore in life,mind,and obstacles showing the individual life's weakness in front of a country,politic,and history.In chapter three,the impact of sound and motion pictures on a screen created visual images full of philosophy and tragic implication.The language system formed poetic symbols showing metaphor and symbolism,and true and mental poetic space and time.In chapter four,this thesis reveals the narrative structure,skill,and strategy to construct the recounting expressions,like narrative frequency,narrative multilinear and so on.In the last chapter,this part is based on lots of research findings to make a deeply thought for Chinese film development.Certainly,they all stood on the development of Chinese film and the unique aesthetic expression of Theo Angelopoulos' s cinema.
