In the context of global cultural development in twenty first century, contemporary art museums in China have been incorporating a great number of works of performing art into their exhibitions of which performance can even be presented as an essential part. This paper, through analyses, researches and studies, discusses the current status and future of the development of performing art in art museums in three major chapters focusing on the"new wave" rising from the background with contemporary art museums as special space provided in China, combined with author's own work experience as a performing artist. In the concluding section,a question is raised towards performing artists and art museums in regard to how this inevitable trend of presenting performing art in art museums should be treated.Correspondingly, author's own experimental art projects are referred to as cases to address the question why such trend plays an indispensible role in the course of development of contemporary arts.In addition,on this trend, analyses from perspectives of artist and museum are respectively done in relation to how treatment can be made and feasible measures put forward.
