Relevance-Adaptation theory is based on Relevance Theory and Adaptation theory.Cognitive context includes lexical information,logical information and encyclopedic information.Cognitive context is a psychological construct as well.In the process of construction in the cognitive context,the hearer will use lexical information,logical information and encyclopedic information to generate the contextual information related to the current discourse information.According to the characteristics of cognition,the purpose of information processing is to achieve the maximum cognitive context by using the least mental effort.Based on the theories of linguistics and pragmatics,the thesis examines the role of cognitive context in Relevance-Adaptation theory.The research methods are based on qualitative and quantitative analysis.That is,in the cognitive context,the combination of qualitative and quantitative analysis.On this basis,we can study how to better understand the meaning of dialogue between the two sides in the cognitive context.In the listening corpus of College English Test Band-4 and Band-6,the two sides of the conversation are to make logical inference according to the change of the cognitive context,and then to make the utterance interpretation and output.The investigation is based on the College English Test Band-4 and Band-6 listening corpus,exploiting the software to get statistical proportion of three kinds of information in the cognitive context in two different levels,through the comparison and analysis of lexical information,logical information,encyclopedic information under the framework of the Relevance-Adaptation theory.
