Integration Of Audiovisual Information In The Processing Of Social Categories

In daily life,social categorization is always applied to simplify social cognition,namely,categorizing others according to social information such as gender,race,age and emotion,so we could recognize and understand others readily and accurately in limited time and cognitive resources.As to the cues in the process of social categorization,most researchers focus on the information from visual channels(such as faces),and few researchers pay attention to the information from auditory channels(such as speech).In fact,people often face information from the visual channel and auditory channel clues at the same time,and thus drive the integration of audio-visual information(AVI-Audiovisual integration)to complete the information processing.In this study,we explore the audio-visual integration of age and race respectively the results show that:(1)audio-visual integration occurred both in age categorization and race categorization processing;(2)In race processing,is the accent not the language to play a vital role;(3)In age processing,face played a more important role than the voice.The.Experiment 3 explores the priority of individual judgment in the case that both face and voice have age and ethnicity.The results show that: When the face and voice are carrying the age and race category,we found that the subjects first to determine whether the target race is within the group,that is,when the stimulus for the Chinese people,the subjects will be further on the age class.And the presentation of the stimulus for the European and American faces,the subjects will only notice the racial attributes of the subjects,and such priority in the face also exists.And voice does not have such a priority.
