A Study Of The Concept Of Women's Civilized Education In Weavers

The civilized education is closely related to people's daily life.Along with the evolution of human civilization,the idea of civilized education is constantly changing and developing.In the modern period of social transformation,there was a trend of civilized education,and woman's civilized education was one of the important components.In this context,Juan Luis Vives,one of the three great figures of the early sixteenth-century humanist movement,along with Erasmus and Budé,puts forward some views about civilized education of woman.This article is based on a manual “The Education of a Christian Woman” of Juan Luis Vives in order to explore his thought of woman's civilized education.This thesis uses the theory of gender and combines the actual situation of modern western society in transforming,and makes a detailed analysis and interpretation of Juan Luis Vives' s “The Education of a Christian Woman”.This paper is consisted of three chapters,the first chapter summarizes the life of Juan Luis Vives,the background of his era,and the origin of his female educational idea.The second chapter analyzes the concept of Juan Luis Vives on the female family's role and code of conduct.Although he believes that women play a pivotal role in the family,he did not fundamentally shake the traditional gender relations,since he still requires women in the family to obey the male's will,and they need to obey the interests of her husband and the family.The third chapter examines the women's role and the code of conduct in public space according to Juan Luis Vives.Although women are allowed to participate in public activities,he requires women must be cautious in public places.This greatly limits the activities of women in public space,which impedes the full role they might play in society.Juan Luis Vives' s idea of woman's civilized education does not fundamentally get rid of the traditional thought of "male superiority to female",but his idea of female civilized education also has a positive and innovative side.He stressed the function of female education,it shocked the medieval view that "in order to cultivate female virtues,there is no need for them to receive education ".With regard to the daughter's marriage,Vives gave the decision to the parents,meanwhile asking parents to consider more of their daughter's feelings.In giving young women instructions to seek partners,Vives asked them to focus on the inner issues,not the external material and beauty.In many details of daily life,Vives highlighted the status and role of women in the family,and this series of advanced ideas for the promotion of female civilized education play an important role.
