The Tang Dynasty is a great flourishing period of ancient Chinese music and dance,and the development of dance art activities affects all aspects related to music and dance;The Tang Dynasty when these development veins formed constantly improved the art aesthetics,so that the dance art reached an unprecedent height.The foreign culture which came to the Central China through the “silk road” provides a rich nutrition for the development of Chinese traditional culture and leaves a trail of blending a variety of elements,which also makes the musical dance in the Tang Dynasty bear such a brilliant scene.It is not only embodied in the richness of palace dance,but also frequently spreads in the folk;It is the soft attitude towards ethnic relations in the Tang Dynasty that makes a variety of cultures greatly integrate and develop in this period,so that we can see so abundant dancing art activities today.With the development of dance art,its instruments,music department,band authorized strength and so on are also increasing or decreasing.At the same time,this change is not only a reference for foreign western culture elements,but what more interesting is that the dance art during this period made a best integration in the absorption and improvement,so this is one of the reasons why we can see that many musical instruments seem to be similar to some musical instruments in central Asia and west Asia,but they are slightly different.These dance art activities carried the important institutional missions of the society during this period,and musical dance played an important role in aulic ritual activities,aulic ceremonial activities or exchanges of feasting foreign guests.This thesis' research content takes “image musical dance” as the object,and comparing the images of musical dance in the Western Han and Eastern Han Dynasties,Wei,Jin,Southern and Northern Dynasties,and Sui Dynasty,it descrives the development vein presenting in images of musical dance;And through continuously collecting the image data of musical dance in archaeological remains,it discusses the images of musical dance.Aiming at these researches on musical dance and referring to archaeological remains and historical documents,a research method which respects for historical facts is adopted.Behind the archaeological sites,there are a lot of information which verifies the relations and development of musical dance art.This thesis is divided into the following three parts:Chapter one: Typical remaining musical dance images in the central China in Tang Dynasty.This part mainly collects and arranges images,and divides the carriers of these musical dance images into two aspects: the musical dance images in the murals and musical dance figures which were unearthed in Tang Dynasty,and then the archaeological remains represented by them are expounded.In addition to collecting the musical dance images in these archaeological sites of the Tang Dynasty in the central China,collecting and using the murals of Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes,Xinjiang Kizil Grottoes and the musical dance images of Panjikent and other central Asia and west Asia is also good examples of studying the evolution of musical dance art of Tang Dynasty in the central China.Chapter two: Forms of musical dance and musical instrument combination in the Tang Dynasty.It aims to expound the form of music department in the Tang Dynasty and a variety of playing forms of musical instruments in musical instrument combination in entertaining banquet activities of Tang Dynasty.According to the existing materials,it analyzes the source and composition of minstrels,the increase or decrease of music system in music department,and the collocation of musical instruments in these dance activities;And the hobbies and interests of social managers and the development status of the society at that time are also expounded.Chapter three: Development of band and musical instruments in the Tang Dynasty.This part is expounded from the perspective of combination form of band and instruments' absorbption of outland elements.It is mainly based on the information of musical dance images in the first chapter and historical documents in the second chapter;Whether the information about musical instruments and band shown in the images are corresponding with the records in the documents makes the research on musical dance art activities become more meaningful.This is also the reason why this thesis collects and arranges a large number of musical dance materials;Meanwhile,the discussion of this chapter will also be this thesis' research emphasis.
