The Study Of Manchu Literati In The Late Qing Dynasty

Aisin-Gioro Shengyu is an outstanding scholar of the Manchu imperial clan in the Late Qing Dynasty.Born in a time of political turmoil,he is resolute and incorruptible,becoming an important member of Ching–liu School.In an up-and-down life,Shengyu gets special attention as a young boy.As the frustration of political career,he retired to write books in the later life.This paper presents his family background,his life and friendship,comments his poetry works,explores his artistic interests,and analyzes his great contribution to Manchu literature he made.Then,we will find his status in the literature history.This paper is divided into four sections.Introduction reviews the research achievements of Shengyu,collects relevant information about Shengyu and Manchu literature,and determines the research methods.Chapter one introduces his family and his life in detail,and make a list of his works.He is royal offspring of the Manchu imperial clan.As the family’s decline,he experienced difficult life.Chapter two researches his social activities in different times.According to different period of life,he has two circles of friends.So I discuss main friends and activities respectively.Chapter three states his literary achievements,which classified his poems and studied his poetics thought.Meanwhile,I research his two compiling works and explore his contribution to Manchu literature.Chapter four concluded his status in the history of literature,which make an objective evaluation based on the judgments of the past literature works and writers about him.
