The 'Good Life' has been one of the main topics in Moral Philosophy for a long time.In the history of western philosophy, there are numerous discussions on what is Good Life and how to achieve Good Life. After investigations on works of ancient Greek Tragedy,Plato and Aristotle,Martha C.Nussbaum,an outstanding philosopher from United State, provided a clear definition on the Good life and advocated living a flourishing Good Life in her book The Fragility of Goodness :Luck and Ethics in Greek Tragedy and Philosophy.Nussbaum also believes that Good life would also inevitably be affected by complicated 'Luck',and in turn, fragility of Good life would generate. In order to get rid of the influences of fortuity and luck, human beings' practical wisdom and the guidance given by emotions must play a guiding role.Researching on the though of Good Life can make us have more understanding about Nussbaum's Moral Philosophy, and what's more, aiming at a study of this thought not only can help us newly cognize the Moral Philosophy tradition of ancient Greece, but also can help us have a better understanding on the theoretical system and the developing skeleton of western Moral Philosophy.Besides,it also makes us know that different moral philosophers have made their theoretical contributions for the human flourishing at different times, and it also provides a rich content and a various perspective for us to study the western Moral Philosophy. This paper mainly discusses the details listed in the thought of Good Life under Nussbaum's ethical context, and the thought of Good Life has a theoretical significance to reality.Through the research of the thought about Good Life,I do hope that we can have a better understanding about how to get rid of the fragility which is a predicament we face,so then we can achieve a happy life.
