War is a common theme in films and it is people in wars that are the real focus of war films. This article intends to explore one of the very special types of people among various kinds of characters in war films throughout centuries of film history-children.Children are often a symbol of purity, innocence and hope in today's international context.Compared to those of adults, images of children in wars are more likely to create "marginal contextualization”,which push the audience to go into reflection on wars in a state of shock and anxiety. The first two chapters of this article adopt methods of sampling and analysis. The first chapter analyzes the meaning of child image in films picturing the Second World War under perspectives of different nations, taking representative films of several countries as examples. The second chapter sorts out the evolution of child image in war films of mainland China after 1949,and this evolution corresponds to the change in concepts of domestic circle of literature and art.Chapter three discusses the role and significance of child image in war films based on the sampling and analysis of the previous two chapters, and investigates the different views of children and war ethics reflected by war films.
