Documentaries,films as well as other television programmes have far more social influence than traditional literary works,but the emphasis on film translation is far less than that of literary translation.Translating domestic documentaries to foreign countries is conducive to the spreading Chinese culture to the world and enhancing its cultural soft power.This thesis chose the first episode and the second episode of the documentary The liberation: Harbin,analyzed the difficulties in the translation and the characteristics of the documentary translation,and wrote the report.Generally,the characteristics of documentary text can be summarized as space and time limitation,comprehensiveness,progressiveness,and popularity.Based on these characteristics,we summarized emission,adjusting register,clarifying logic,inversion,and other translation methods and techniques.When it comes to the unique characteristics of The liberation: Harbin,it is of authenticity,colloquial and cultural characteristics,and we also summarized the corresponding translation methods and techniques such as addition,inversion,and communicative translation.According to the characteristics and difficulties of the documentary,case analysis was written and reference was provided for the further documentary translation researching and practicing.
