A Report On English-Chinese Translation Of Audiovisual Translation:Subtitling(Chapters 1-2)

This thesis,as an English-Chinese translation report,taking the first two chapters of Audiovisual Translation:Subtitling as the original material,is to report the translating process as well as to discuss how the translator did the practice under the guidance of the theory resorted to,and finally there is a reflection.Audiovisual Translation:Subtitling(Translation Practices Explained),based on the practical research and personal experience,is a coursebook co-authored by Jorge Diaz Cintas and Aline Remael,and designated to present the whole process of the subtitling from many aspects.Every chapter of this book involves some typical examples in subtitling giving a comprehensive introduction to the subtitling from such seven aspects as introduction to subtitling,the professional environment,the semiotics of subtitling,technical consideration and so on,in which the first two chapters are chosen as the translation practice material for this translation practice.The first chapter mainly gives an overall introduction to the subtitling(including the classification of subtitles and technical parameters)while the second one focuses on the professional environment in subtitling(including the professionals and working conditions)and there are about 19,000 words in total.This translation report can be divided into such five parts as task description,process description,theoretical guidance,case analysis and the reflection of this practice.The whole process of this translation practice,under the guidance of Peter Newmark's Text Types theory,mainly resorts to the Communicative Translation strategy,as well as the combination of Semantic Translation strategy if necessary.According to the three principles(faithfulness,accuracy and readability)in the translation of textbooks,the author resorts to some feasible translation techniques so as to present the translation version to the target readers just as the source text to the source language readers.By this translation practice,the author hopes to improve his translation skills and get good mastery of the essence of the informative text as well as some strategies and techniques.Hopefully,the author's translation can be helpful for those interested in or making research in the subtitling.
