League of Nations is a pioneer exploration of leadership of the world brought out by the United States.Through and after the World War I,with cooperation and compromise made among USA,UK,France and Japan, the draft of league went through discussion.Wilson succeeded temporally in the level of international negotiation. However, after Wilson brought the treaty of alliance back to congress, the permission faced a Senate that Republican was in majority, with the Irreconcilables, the Strong Reservationists and the Mild Reservationists holding different opinions.Although some provision challenged the Isolationism principle America has been holding, almost each party tried to make treaty went through by different methods in order to participate in the building of international order after war. However, they didn't find a way,USA didn't join League of Nations brought out by itself. The failure of League of Nations in USA is not of a single reason, just as researchers of politics of Wilson found different possible explanations of the failure. This thesis tries to explain the event using Double Game Theory.Three aspects were discussed.First,anti-war atmosphere after the World War and common interest of countries made it a game.Second, form of government and preference of nation limited the win set of USA.Third, the chief negotiator Wilson misused the strategy that leaded to a loss of initiative of negotiation. All these three aspects triggered the failure.Fundamentally, the Isolationism restricting the diplomatic thoughts and USA trying to enhance control of international affairs were controversial, which made the league a conflict and being vulnerable. It is true that the Isolation constructed a peaceful environment for development in USA.Nevertheless, with change of the world and the power of itself, the United States can't take the responsibility as global leader if it won't give up Isolationism and being open to the world.
