Since the 19 th century,Japan has never relaxed the concern of the South ChinaSea region,before the end of World War II,Japan intervened in the South China Sea business through the way of commercial development and military occupation.After the defeat of World War II,although Japan does not have the identity of the claimants of South China Sea island,but still tries to get involved in the South China Seaissues.And Japan's many of the initiatives in the South China Sea are aimed at China,causing our concern.Therefore,the analysis of Japan's strategic interests in the South China Sea region and the evolution of the South China Sea policy has become an important issue to maintain maritime safety in the South China Sea region.This paper starts from the historical origins of Japan and the South China Sea islands and lay the foundation for the analysis of the Japan's policy of the South China Sea.This paper analyzes Japan's strategic adjustment of the South China Sea policy after the Cold War,the Japan-US alliance's influence on Japan's involvement in the South China Sea issue,and Japan's strategic diamond around the South China Sea.Then,by exploring how Japan cooperates with the neighboring countries of the South China Sea on the South China Sea issue,this paper reveals Japan's strategic intentions in the South China Sea region.In addition,this paper believes that the basic trend of Japan's South China Sea policy evolution is as follows: First,Japan will pay more attention to cooperation with foreign powers in the South China Sea issue,especially with the United States;Second,Japan will strengthen the relations with the South China Sea countries,especially the Philippines and Vietnam,Japan will spend more efforts to achieve the right of leading and control.
