| It is well known that the great powers have always been the main factors that have a major impact on the international structure.In the development of international relations and subject to the complex international situation,because of its own national strength constraints,small countries often hard to cross the limitations,hence difficult to make a difference.However,Singapore is an exception,its unique characteristics of the Great power balancing strategy set a successful example of the small country.Singapore has set up for a short period,has a small population,also lack of natural resources,it has achieved remarkable social and economic achievements in only a few decades.The role of Singapore played on international relations in Southeast Asia and the world is asymmetric with its own population and country size.The reason for this is the enacting and implementation of Singapore's great power balancing strategy.This strategy which supported by balance of power theory,based on the fact that the great power's exist in the South-East Asia region,formulated by powers of principle of mutual checks and balances,and formed from particular domestic and international background.The pragmatic strategy not only makes Singapore a great benefit in economic development,but also makes it possible to play the role of intermediary and balancer in South-east Asian region where to have a great number of the small country and some great powers are involved in.Thus,the country has a certain speak right in the region,enjoy much respect for the international community,defeated the saying "Small nations don't have diplomacy".China,as a continent which lasting a self-existence and a far-reaching influence in Southeast Asia,has always been the important implementation object of power strategy in Singapore.As a small,South-east Asian nation,70 percent of the population in Singapore is ethnic Chinese but surrounded by Muslim.As a result of the ethnic relations and national political system,the relationship between Singapore and China is not smooth sailing,after the cold war before and the development of change.The relationship between two countries centered on economic intercourse,having different emphases at different times.Especially after the establishment of diplomatic relations between Singapore and China,Singapore has implemented economic,trade and military security cooperation and also other aspects.With the continuous practice and development of the relations between the both countries under the strategy,the effect of its strategy on various aspects of new relations has gradually emerged.Which not only promote the positive development of bilateral relations,but also the negative impact on the bilateral relations.In the new period,international circumstance changing unpredictably,the regional power is shifting,especially the all-around rise of China,the transformation for the Asia Pacific policy of the United States,besides,the territorial dispute over the South China Sea caused by ASEAN-related relations with China,all those issues making the bilateral relation under balance of power diplomacy strategy between Singapore and China face new challenges.This dissertation introduced the connotation and formation background of the strategy,discussed the specific practice of Singapore's great power strategy in new relations between Singapore and China,explore the influence of the diplomatic strategy on the relations between the two countries.At the end of the article,discussing under the new situation,this strategy facing new challenges in its relations with China,that is how Singapore consider China as an important force to maintain the stable regional environment,being in the vehicle of China's rapid development,at the same time,having the right approach to changes from the rise of China,enhancing mutual trust and expanding consensus,steadying bilateral ties,grasping the overall situation of the friendly relations and cooperation,to promoting long-term development between Singapore and China. |
