John M.B.Sill served as the U.S.Minister to Korea in the most complicated situation on the Korean Peninsula from the eve of Sino-Japanese War to the the establishment of Korean Empire.He enforced the established policy of the United States to the Korean Kingdom and formed his own diplomatic concept from the realistic environment of the peninsula,which combined American interests in Korea with the independence of Korean kingdom.In accordance with the changes in the Korean political situation,he constantly adjusted his own diplomatic strategy,so as to maintain the interests of the United States and the independence of the Korea in a specific historical context.Restricted by specific historical conditions,he was recalled by the United States government on the occasion of the adjustment of the United States to the policy of the Korea,but the result of his diplomatic efforts were continued.Owing to his efforts over three years,the Korean peninsula formed the balance of situation,These efforts,to a certain extent,blocked the pace of aggression by Japanese to the Korea,and the interests of the United States in Korea were also preserved due to the formation of the balance of big powers on the Korean peninsula and the establishment of the Korean empire.This is the greatest contribution of his diplomatic activities to the bilateral relations of the United States and the Korea,and a series of diplomatic propositions and strategies have become beneficial factors in the policy of the United States towards the Korea in a particular historical period.
