Kevin Michael Rudd was elected as the Premier of Australia on December 2007 successfully.He is also the first national leader who can communicate in Chinese fluently and he had the experience of dealing with foreign affairs as a diplomat in China when he was young.All these aspects contribute to a high expectation which making a further development in Sino-Australian relations from all kinds of people in China and Australia.But the relationship between China and Australia in the period of Kevin Rudd was unsatisfactory and frustrated.This thesis looks into Australia’s policies toward China and the relationship between the two countries by combining with Kevin Rudd’s early experiences and his view of China.The author finds out Kevin Rudd’s “China hand” identity can not illustrate he must be a “Pro-China camp” after a series of researches.His attitudes and policies toward China are based on Australian interests and his personal political demands.This reminds us of considering the state’s benefit and policy maker’s domestic and international political environments when we analyze a nation’s foreign policies and external relations. |
