Based on the observation to the middle school students, the author finds that usage of cell phones has affected their normal life and study seriously, so I eager to explore reasons behind it, as well as put forward solutions and suggestions to it. The author realizes that in the final analysis, using cell phones is a kind of symbolic consumption behavior which includes not only exchange money for needed articles, but also including exchange time, energy for needed feelings, emotions, etc. Symbolic Consumption is tightly related to identity,I defined and classified the behaviors that middle school students using cell phones excessively with their exploration of identity mediated by Symbol Consumption investigate the relationship between the three, and explain the root of thought, and it's the main line of this article. As an important problem, excessive usage of cell can be overcame only if we could seize the root, and clear the context.Five parts are clearly illustrated here.In the introduction, the author defines the concept "Excessive" and "Use", so that the research question is cleared. Also, study review is presented in the introduction as the basic of this research; it combs the relationship of SymboJ Consumption, Identity and using cell phone excessively. Part two indicates the results of observation and interview, summarizes the characteristics of middle school students using cell phones. Through the analysis, we can conclude the characteristics of students themselves. In part three, I explain the reason why middle school students using cell phones excessively based on the observation, interview, as well as identity theory and Symbol Consumption theory. In part four,I comb the relationship of these three key works---using cell phone excessively, Symbol Consumption, and Identity based on the closely combining of theory and practice. Last but not least, The author gives suggestions to solve the problem of middle school students using cell phones excessively from level of idea and operation.
