In China, because of the lack of real language context of spoken English communication,classroom is the main site of students' spoken English output. In English class, teacher should play the incentive function of evaluation, which is stressed in New Curriculum Standard.Teachers' evaluation can not only serve as the language input, but also provide opportunities for the students to produce their target language. Moreover, incentive evaluation helps to promote students' language output and the communication between teachers and students. So, in English teaching of junior middle school, teachers' incentive evaluation is an effective way to promote students' spoken English output.After reading the literatures, the author found many scholars had researched incentive evaluation from different angles. Hu Honglan and Ma Haida studied the principles, methods and problems of incentive evaluation, etc. American psychologist Rogers researched the influence of incentive evaluation in classroom atmosphere. In a word, their studies have provided much insight into foreign language teaching and learning. However, only a few studies have been conducted on incentive evaluation in junior middle schools. What's more, few studies are found to focus their researches upon the relationships between incentive evaluation and students' spoken English output. So it is of necessity to carry out a research on relationships between incentive evaluation and students' spoken English output in junior middle schools.This study, based upon the survey of the previous studies, aims to discuss whether the students' spoken English output will be promoted by teachers' incentive evaluation, to reveal the problems existing in teachers' incentive evaluation, and discuss whether proper incentive evaluation can promote students' spoken English output. The author gave out questionnaires, did classroom observation and classroom recordings in Zaozhuang No.28 middle school, then compared them with the high-quality class observation and recordings. After learning the present situation of English teachers' incentive evaluation and the students' language output, the author analyzed the main problems existing in teachers' incentive evaluation, and put forward some countermeasures to make the incentive evaluation better promote students' language output. The results show that teachers' evaluation in actual class didn't play a fully positive role, students' output was extremely limited. The author has also conducted a corresponding experimental research, and put forward some countermeasures to improve the teachers' incentive evaluation.
