The Humanistic Basis Of Space Production

This paper analyses Jane Jacobs' city views from the philosophy and interdisciplinary perspective.According to a comprehensive and systematic analysis on the Jacobs' city views,domestic and foreign research status of development of the cities of various historical periods and the research results of related areas,this paper holds that the study of Jane Jacobs's city views can help us solve many problems faced in the development of China,both on the construction of characteristic humanistic cities and developing Chinese characteristics humanistic cities.Therefore,it is of great academic value and practical significance to study Jacobs's city views.The introduction of the paper includes four parts:research background,research status at home and abroad,research approach and research methods,innovation of the paper.The main body is divided into four parts.The first part is Chapter One which describes the contemporary space production trends from the perspective of the city trends and humanistic meaning and explains why we should study city and the study of cities is the study of humanistic meaning.From the generation of space production to origin of city and acceleration of urbanization process to highlighted problems on modern urban city production,we pursue economic and material growth blindly,resulting in loss of the humanistic connotations on space production.The second part includes the Chapter Two and Chapter Three.Chapter Two discusses the main content of Jane Jacobs's city views.Jacobs's city views is mainly about her reflection on the nature of the city.Jacobs believes that the city is a symbol and extension of human civilization,which is a spatial realization of inhabitation and association.She believes that the city has life,diversity,order and complexity,not chaos.At the same time,she criticized that American cities gets so caught up on the aesthetic order excessively,focusing on urban construction planning only and ignoring the nature of the city.In the Chapter Three,the author first affirms the research value of Jacobs's city views,which is of great significance to the construction of the urban space.Secondly,Jacobs's city views also has some limitations.City views is a bit narrow,ignoring the relationship between city construction and the surrounding environment;and Jacobs'city views is partial to humanistic care while ignoring the impact to city from ecological environment,people's needs of nature and the nature's feedback on human.The third part includes the Chapter Four.Based on the reflection on the Jacobs'city views,this chapter explores the construction of Chinese characteristic humanistic cities,revealing that people-orientation and internal external harmony between man and nature is the fundamentation and core of the construction of city space.Only based on the humanity in the process of urban space construction,we can build the Chinese characteristics humanistic cities in which sky,earth and people live in harmony with each other.Based on the above analysis,we can see that Jacobs's city views has its limitations and biases while it still has great academic value and realistic meaning for us on studying many issues of Chinese city space.In addition,through the analysis of Jacobs's city views,we found that all kinds of Jacobs' views on the city are unified in the concept of the life city.Therefore,the study of Jacobs's city views has certain value for reference to the construction of China's humanistic city.
