The Carnegie Classification of Higher Education is a framework that describes the diversity of American higher education institutions,Presented by Clark Cole who is the Chairman of the Carnegie Teaching and Promotion Foundation.This classification fully embodies the characteristics of the diversified development of American higher education and conforms to the law of American education.So become the United States and the world's most authoritative areas of education in colleges and universities classification criteria.The United States as a world education power,any of its successful education policy or management system are worthy of our research and analysis,and from which to find useful things.Based on the research and analysis of the classification system of Carnegie higher education in the United States,this paper explores the implications of this classification for the classification of higher education in China.Firstly,it introduces the reason of the topic and the research status and dynamic analysis of higher education at home and abroad.The research situation at home and abroad is mainly from two aspects,the first is the classification of thestatus of higher education in the country,on the other hand is the country on Carnegie classification of higher education research.The review of the classification of higher education at home and abroad allows us to recognize the necessity of our research on the classification of Carnegie higher education.This paper introduces the background of the classification of Carnegie's higher education,including the social background of classification and the theoretical basis of classification development.In addition,the author summarizes the three stages of Carnegie's classification of higher education,including the initial stage,the mature stage and the stabilization stage,from the perspective of vertical development.On the theoretical basis of the classification of Carnegie's higher education,the theory of Martin Troy's elite education turned to mass education provided some theoretical conditions for the development of Carnegie's classification of higher education.Academic freedom in the philosophy of university's academic value,Academic autonomy and academic neutrality to provide a theoretical basis for classification;based on the status of sociological theory for the long-term development of the classification provides a realistic theoretical basis.then,This paper introduces the main contentsof the classification of Carnegie's higher education in 2015,and summarizes the classification criteria of each classification system in the classification framework.The classification of the new card-based classification of this classification will help our researchers to better study Carnegie classification.In the study of the development process of Carnegie's higher education,the author summarizes the progress of the classification of Carnegie's classification in 2015,and the shortcomings of the development of Carnegie's higher education classification.Carnegie higher education classification has been developed for more than 40 years,and become the world's higher education classification of the most authoritative classification,its value in the education sector is worthy of our exploration,The author sums up the value of Carnegie higher education classification to American higher education,and draws some significance of Carnegie classification to establish the classification of higher education with Chinese characteristics.
