| The classification of regular higher education institutions is not only a worldwide baffling problem. It is also the hot and difficult problem that puzzles the current Chinese reform and development of higher education. It concerns not only the choice of individual for the service of higher education, but also the full performance of social functions of higher education institutions as well as the healthy development of their continuation. What's more important is that it also concerns how our government to distribute education resources equitably.The dissertation follows such thinking route as"put forward the question—theory analysis—international comparison—domestic comment—classification formation—respective development"and uses many research methods to based the basic conceptions of classification of higher education institutions; sum up the basic theories of classification of higher education institutions; introduce and analyze foreign and domestic classifications, especially the 2005 Carnegie Basic Classification of Institutions of Higher Education; dissertate the basic principles of classification; and pose a cursory multi-dimensional and combinatorial classification framework of the regular higher education institutions from the point of view of degrees awarded, fields covered, functions of school, types of students cultivated and size of school. |
