Being the first in China's history,Shanghai has held middle school graduates physical exam,as an essential part of the high school entrance examination,for more than 30 years.It has been playing an important role in fully implementing the party's education policy,strengthening physical education,improving the quality of physical education and sports activities,enhancing students' physiques,guiding students to consciously participate in physical exercise,and evaluating the results of exercise as well as students overall quality.The project of middle school graduates physical exam in Shanghai has undergone several reforms,obtaining certain achievements.However,we have found this project also has some disadvantages and thus has caused a few problems,mainly shown in the following aspects: 1)Students acquiring high scores in the exam aren't necessarily physically fit.2)Criteria used for items of the same category in the exam may be different,which may result in unfairness.Therefore,the current exam should be improved as soon as possible.For the above reasons,a survey and analysis on the status quo of the middle school graduates physical exam in Shanghai are carried out by the methods of documentary information,questionnaire,expert interview,mensuration and mathematical statistics,etc.It reveals that the full mark for the middle school graduates physical exam in Shanghai is 30 points,which is lower than any other province or city in China,while 15 points out of the 30 are given according to students' daily physical tests and the ratio is the highest in our country.Since the grading system is under the lax supervision,the impartiality and authenticity of the daily tests can't be guaranteed.The classification of four categories in the final exam embodies the principle of diversification,yet the exam is in lack of humanization,which limits the items for students in special conditions such as obesity.What's more,students who take qualitative items like gymnastics are normally scored higher than they should,mainly for the sake of physical protection.According to the above research results,this thesis puts forward some countermeasures and suggestions: 1)Cut down the scores of daily tests to adjust the proportion of each part in the middle school graduates physical exam.2)Bring into full play of the function of physical health monitoring centers in every district or county and allow students to choose from several periods of time at weekends to take the tests,which enable the daily tests to be regular.3)In case of deceit,the assessment of each student's performance in P.E.lessons should be provided by the school,and the scores shown in the paper National Student Physical Health Standard should be decided by physical health monitoring centers in every district or county based on the data collected in the previous years.4)The items in the middle school graduates physical exam should be humanized and diversified.Some current items of endurance like long-distance running are too difficult to some students in special conditions such as obesity,yet the only substitute of them,the 200-meter swimming,is limited by the sites or equipment.A four-minute rope skipping can be provided as an alternative.
