Research On The Citizenization Of Landless Peasants In The Suburbs

With the city development, more and more areas are zoned into the city territory.A large number of peasants are off from the land, becoming landless peasants. This group of people has always been the focus of attention, and the public activities in urbanization has been carried out for many years. But objectively speaking they still cannot be counted as real citizens. In daily life they still retains the color of peasants.In view of this, this paper selects D resettlement community in Nanjing as the research object. The residents are in land lost period and their living problems are basically solved. But they are still unable to admit they are citizens now.This paper adopts the method of non participant observation and non structured interviews.After investigation, the community residents have been basically living in community, living like citizens, having non-agriculture jobs. Also their social security and community service are just like citizens. From this point of view, they have entered the "primary stage" of urbanization.However, further investigation shows that the urbanization degree of those residents is still not enough. Firstly, suburban farmers produced a serious sense of relative deprivation. Secondly, the management and service from community is not enough. In that way, some "invisible public service" is difficult to carry on. Thirdly,they are lack of the pressure to survive; they are facing the erosion of the poverty culture; the upward flow channel is narrow; urbanization of landless peasants lack of direct interests to attract. All of these lead they lost the push. Fourthly, the identity of the community residents resettlement has not changed, so they generally cannot identify themselves. Fifthly, the landless peasants social intercourse is gradually showing a characteristic of objective rationality and instrumental rationality.These difficulties make the urbanization of landless peasants is hard to carry on.According to these difficulties, this paper argues that the suburban landless peasants'urbanization is a process that the government, the community, and the landless peasants interact properly. As long as we can identify the dilemma. We can count on that someday these landless peasants will eventually get rid of the shadow of farmers and become real citizens.
