Schwab Boya's Educational Thought Research

Schwab was a great humanist educator and scientist in the 20 th century.He devoted his whole life to linking science education with liberal education.Many people know a lot about his practical courses,science education and so on,while few people learn more about his liberal education.The University of Chicago was his main practice place,and he had participated in the reform of the liberal teaching curriculum sponsored by Hutchins.Together with Bruner,he led the new curriculum reform movement in the 1950 s and 1960 s in the United States,which witnessed the high and low ebb of the American liberal education.Through McKeon,Schwab was exposed to the ideas of Aristotle and Dewey,and draw nutrition from their thoughts.Finally,his liberal education thought was formed and improved.There are five parts in this thesis: the first part introduces Schwab's life and main practical activities,the second part analyzes the main stage of Schwab liberal's educational thought formation-the embryonic stage,the forming stage and the perfect stage;The third part analyzes the main sources of Schwab liberal's thought,mainly from Aristotle and Dewey.The fourth part is the focus of this paper,mainly combing the basic ideas of Schwab liberal's educational thought,including the purpose and essence of liberal's education.Content and method;the last part expounds Schwab's reference value to our country's education.
