The development of Chinese tourism appeared two big changes. First, with the development of economy and improvement of per capita income, domestic tourism appears a trend of rapid growth and gradually occupied the dominant position. Second, with the development of urbanization, city has become a center of transportation, tourist source region and destination. It plays an important role in the development of domestic tourism. However, because of various cities have different geography, urban scale and economic development level, domestic tourism development is unbalanced and it is not synchronized from nationwide. What are differences in domestic tourism between these cities? What are the factors influencing the development of domestic tourism in different cities? How to find out comparative advantages and choose best strategic options? These questions are core content in this paper.In this paper, it chooses capital and sub-provincial cities as the research object, and selects 32 center cities for the study sample. In order to prove the existence of regional differences in domestic tourism, the paper select absolute index(it including domestic tourists number and revenue ranking change, population per unit area and unit received tourist number and other indicators of change) and relative index (HHI index, CRn index, visitors density index, Gini coefficient)for verification. Meanwhile, this paper selects seven factors, which include resource abundance, GDP, population density, distance and traffic location, tourist satisfaction, tourism investment and hospitality, then built 3 statistical models to analysis its dynamic mechanism. Meanwhile, it also digs endowment of major tourist hotspots and compares advantages. In addition, it divides into several categories and considers that different cities have different tourism development orientations and strategic choices. The main conclusions are as follows:(1) Through the analysis of each index, it can hold that domestic tourism belong to the competitive market, CRn index and Gini coefficient are large, visitors density index are quite different in various cities. That is to say, the development of domestic tourism in the bipolar phenomenon is still evident and the regional differences and imbalance phenomenon is still serious.(2) In the dynamic mechanism analysis it build 3 statistical model of 2005-2006, 2011-2012 and 2005-2012, then come to the conclusion that four internal factors such as tourist satisfaction, tourism resources abundance, tourism investment and hospitality have greater impact on domestic tourism. While other three external factors, such as GDP, population density, traffic location have less impact on domestic tourism. In other words, the city which is good development of domestic tourism must have appealing attractions, high tourist satisfaction, strong tourist reception and tourism investment capacity, meanwhile generally have dense population, good location, convenient transportation and developed economy.(3) Using SPSS software, author cluster each of factors and divide them into different types. Such as the two-dimensional matrix of resource-satisfaction, economy-population, economy-transportation and reception-investment. We hold that resource abundance and satisfaction are the most important factors from the point of resource condition. From the perspective of regional conditions, we think the most important factors are economic development, traffic conditions and population density. But in view of market conditions, the most important factors are economic development, the ability of investment and reception capacity. From what have been discussed above, we divide 32 cities into three types of resource-oriented, location-oriented and market-oriented based on different endowments and advantages. The 21 cities such as Chengdu, Xian and Wuhan are resource-oriented type. The 10 cities such as Guangzhou, Xiamen are location-oriented cities. Other 6 cities such as Shenzhen, Dalian are market-oriented cities. Then make different strategic options and recommendations for each city, which has an important reference for development of tourism in big cities.The paper is a part of regional differences in a large spatial of domestic tourism development. It explain the push factors and attraction elements scientifically from the perspective of elasticity, And explain the intrinsic link and interaction of different factors quantitatively, which make research more objective and scientific. Meanwhile introducing factor endowments and comparative advantage theory, it divides the cities into different types and proposes different tourism development strategies. The above study provides development direction and basis for urban tourism. It is of great significance for domestic tourism development and urban tourism strategic choice.
