Since the development of new economic growth theory, human capital is considered as an important factor of economic growth, and the education is the main channel of human capital formation. With the sustained and rapid development of Chinese economy, the government increases the investment of education, making the further development of education career, that brings about the obvious improvement on educational level and optimization on the educational resources allocation. However, there are still some regional differences on the distribution of our country's education, with unbalanced development and significantly different education equilibrium.Education as a kind of output elements, its distribution structure and corresponding economic phase should be at the equilibrium, that means education inequality problems cannot be ignored in the study of Chinese economic growth. So far, scholars at home and abroad have yet made consistent conclusion on the study of education inequality and economic growth. Most of them think the education inequality will hold up economic growth, but a few studies have shown that increasing education inequality is helpful to economic development.Given this, this paper firstly uses the education gini coefficient to measure the regional education inequality, and compares the differences and trends of education inequality between different areas. On this basis, this article makes an analysis from the theoretical and empirical angles. In the theoretical analysis, reference for related theory, introduces education gini coefficient intio theory analysis framework, and analyzes the mechanism of the education inequality influence on economic growth,it is concluded that education inequality exists nonlinear effect on economic growth. In the empirical analysis,it uses Chinese provincial panel data from 2004-2012 to verify this theory analysis conclusion.Considering the influence of nonlinear form of education inequality, this paper uses the nonparametric model specification form, build a semiparametric econometric model to modify the traditional linear model. The empirical results are consistent with theoretical analysis, confirming the education inequality in the form of the nonlinear effect on economic growth. The research results indicate that:(1)Chinese overall education level and degree of homogenization have been improved, different regions have different educational inequality improvement degree, the Gini Coefficient of developed areas and undeveloped areas decline with large range.(2)Educational inequality can promote economic output at both ends and hold up it in the middle. That is,when the level of education equality is low(el?0.32),the improvement of education inequality raises economic output level; In most cases, education inequality will hold up the economic output;when the level of education equality is equal to the ideal value(el<0.18),improving the education inequality will promote economic growth. Finally,on the basis of the research conclusion, this paper puts forward relevant policy suggestions respectively from the perspective of overall and regional.
